The OKSWCS awards one $1,500 academic scholarship to one awardee per school year. A $30 portion of the grant is applied to the student’s SWCS membership for the following year. Applicants must be a full time student in an Oklahoma junior college or university and have a major related to soil and water conservation (Soil Science, Natural Resource Ecology and Management, Environmental Science, Wildlife Management, etc.). Applicants that are freshman, sophomores, or juniors are eligible, and must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better on a 4.0 scale. Selections are based purely on merit; without discrimination to race, gender, religion, age, disability, or national origin.
December – January: Announce scholarship and begin accepting applications
February : Applications due
March – April: Review nominations and select recipients
April: Notify winners
May: Prepare award certificates, plaques, etc. for scholarship recipients
June: Announce and recognize recipient at Chapter’s annual meeting

OKSWCS past president and scholarship committee chairperson, Josh Ketch, presents Katelynn Gifford the 2015 Oklahoma Chapter of SWCS annual scholarship. Katelynn’s major at OSU is Natural Resource Ecology and Management with an option in Fisheries and Aquatic Ecology and also an option in Wildlife Ecology and Management.
